Sally: How does Acupuncture work and how will it benefit your clients?
Anna:
The benefits of Acupuncture are enormous and in one treatment you can
cover the entire body & mind. Acupuncture has a balancing effect on
the entire being (reducing excess or building deficiency) bringing
about homeostasis, support and nourishment for each individual. Health
and dis-ease is an individual process so the outcomes are specific to
each case. The healing benefits can hugely depend on how open and
trusting the client is with their therapist, if they trust and feel
safe then amazing healing can occur, the trust and letting go is a part
of the healing process.
In basic terms Acupuncture is the eastern
art of working with Chi, Qi (or Energy, in the western world) of the
body, mind, it's organs and the many channels the Qi moves through. By
inserting metal needles into the body (metal being a powerful conductor
of energy) we are accessing the bodies Intricate Qi systems, we can
surge Qi through a stagnant area where pain has set in or we can
relieve an area where there is to much Qi circulating. The treatment
can vary greatly depending on the techniques used such as the styles of
Chinese, Korean or Japanese Acupuncture and the type's of needle's
used. The quality and size of the needle can also affect the treatment
process. Each traditional form uses many different techniques such as
burning a herbal moxa (in many different ways on and around the body),
different styles may use shallow or deep needling, thin or thicker
needles and may also prescribe herbs. Its just a matter of finding the
style and practitioner you enjoy and trust to bring about the best
healing for you.
Sally: Do you specialise in any specific ailments or people (athletes, women etc.)?
Anna: Its funny how similar conditions always arise in the same weeks such as stiff necks one week, then stomach upsets the next, but no I don't only treat specific cases. I do however see mostly individuals with muscular skeletal conditions such as tightness and pain in the muscles and spine, after assessing the main complaint there are always underlying conditions such as food allergies, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, liver complaints and number one stress. Because I am a Yoga teacher and a Naturopath I find I am always giving suggestions on how to decrease the stress levels, such as stretching, meditation and nutritional support. My speciality is deep therapeutic intuitive work on all levels.
Sally: What is your number one tip for finding health and happiness in life?
Anna: My number one tip to find happiness and balance in life is firstly become your own best friend, learn as much as possible about you! How you truly work, what your body mind requires to keep you in fine form and what throws you out. We are all such complex beings and the more we know about what makes ourselves tick the more we can be a conscious happy being. Knowing how you react to stress, what makes you stressed, what makes you happy, what makes you laugh, the more you are aware of these divine individualities the more you can get what you require out of life. You will not be seeking externally for happiness but sharing your joy with those around you. I have a wee saying Live Life Living!
Sally: What initially attracted you to the Natural Therapies industry?
Anna: My own illness and weaknesses from a young child and the lack of support & education from Western Medicine and allopathic doctors.
Sally: What is your greatest hope for the Natural therapies industry in the future?
Anna: My greatest hope is that Eastern & Western Medicine, Natural & Allopathic Medicine will join forces to treat disease and health, utilising all the ancient skills and modern research to support & educate individuals and their communities on health and well-being. Prevention is better than cure!
