White coating on the tongue
My tongue is always white even though I brush it twice daily, use a tongue scraper and dont drink milk or each dairy very much.
The most common causes of a white coating on the tongue is the over proliferation of Candida in the digestive system or oral thrush. Other reasons for this occuring may be due to dehydration, high acidic and sugary diets, smoking, alcohol consumption, as a side effect to some antibiotics and medications or diseases such as jaundice, Epstein-Barr virus and Lupus.
Some natural treatments to help decrease a white coating on the tongue:
- Take an acidophilus/ probiotic supplement to combat the over proliferation of Candida Albicans.
- Ensure adequate water intake - at least 6 - 8 glasses of filtered water per day.
- Try some cleansing vegetable juices such as celery, beetroot, carrot, mint and ginger.
- Sip a glass of warm water with lemon juice in the mornings. This helps to cleanse the digestive system and liver. Alternatively substitute the lemon juice with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar.
- Ensure good oral hygiene by regularly brushing teeth, flossing and tongue scraping. Ayurvedic tongue scrapers are available at many health food stores.
- Reduce acid forming foods in the diet. Attached is an acid/ alkaline food chart.
- Soy milk can also leave a white residue on the tongue.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking.
Apply salt or powdered charcoal spread on the tongue.
- Brush teeth with vegetable glycerin every night.
- Another natural remedy that can be swished around the mouth with warm water is 1/8th teaspoon of cayenne pepper, if your brave enough.
