Tonsilectomy healing
I have a sixteen year old stepdaughter who just had her tonsils removed. I would like to know what I could give her to help promote the healing process
After tonsil surgery it is beneficial to support the health of the immunity, lymphatics and liver function to aid healing and reduce any possibility of infection. A tonsilectomy will generally require the use of a local anaesthetic to numb the area prior to surgery. These anaesthetic medications can burden the the lymphatic system and cause a decline in liver function and removal of wastes. Healthy bowel bacteria will also be negatively influenced, especially if your daughter has taken a course of antibiotics since the surgery.
Diet tips for healing
- Ensure adequate hydration to help the bowels to properly eliminate and ensure the liver does not over heat due to the burden of the anaestethic medication
- Gargle some Manuka honey in a small glass of warm water to promote direct healing to the area. Manuka honey will provide a topical application of a potent antibacterial
- An alkaline diet
Natural remedies for healing
- Probiotics help to ensure that there is plenty of healthy bacteria to colonate in the bowel and influence the immune system
- Vitamin C and Zinc help to rebuild immunity, reduce congestion, inflammation and support wound healing
- The Homeopathic Arnica is specific for pre and post surgery as it benefits with wound healing by promoting circulation and reducing swelling and blood stasis
- Chlorophyll and Green Barley powder to help alkalise the system, cleanse the blood, improve liver detoxification and provide minerals for the healing process
- Colloidal silver to benefit the immune system and supply antibacterial properties to the area
- Improving antioxidant status may help the health of the whole system while protecting liver function. Some antioxidant herbs and nutrients are – Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Zinc, Selenium, B Vitamins, Grape seed, Olive leaf, Green Tea, Ginger, Turmeric, Japanese Knotwood and Milk Thistle
- Using herbal medicine to encourage liver detoxification and lymphatic wastes is a good idea to help remove excess metabolic wastes (due to the side effects of anaesthetic medication) via lymphatic waste removal after surgery. Some herbs which are beneficial are Poke root, Baptisia, Wild Indigo, Cleavers, Golden Seal and Echinacea
