Side effects of the oral contraceptive pill

What are the side effects of taking the oral contraceptive pill? Can I use it to control excema?

The oral contraceptive pill (OCP) is only of benefit for reducing acne, not eczema, when it is influenced by the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone.  It should have no effect on reducing the inflammation which causes the skin condition excema.

Side effects of the Oral Contraceptive pill

  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Fluid retention, weight gain, thrush and bloating
  • Headaches and breast tenderness
  • Acne, greasy hair or oily skin
  • Decreased sexual desire
  • Irritability, depressed mood and fatigue
