Nausea

I suffer from nausea everyday. What causes this problem?

Common causes of nausea:

Common causes of nausea: image
  • Liver congestion, liver disease and hepatitis
  • Gall bladder insufficiencies
  • High doses of caffeine intake
  • Nervous system drugs and side effects from pharmaceutical medications
  • Heavy metal toxicity
  • Supplemental B Vitamins or Zinc taken on an empty stomach
  • Reflux, indigestion and hyperacidity (due to insufficient digestive processes)
  • Inflammatory bowel and stomach conditions
  • Chronic dehydration is the leading cause of nausea
  • Constipation
  • Incorrect bowel flora such as an over-proliferation of detrimental bacteria, candida, guiardia
  • Halitosis (bad breath) due to insufficient digestion, maldigestion of proteins, dehydration and constipation
  • A diet of excess saturated fats as it strains the liver and gall bladder to produce and secrete bile to break the fats and oils down

Diet tips for nausea

  • Drink at least 2 litres water/ day. You can also include lemon juice in water and herbal teas as a healthy and refreshing way of increasing hydration
  • Decrease consumption of diuretics such as tea, coffee, alcohol and soft drinks
  • Drink herbal teas such as Chamomile and Peppermint to relax, soothe and encourage digestion
  • Reduce saturated fats in the diet

Lifestyle factors for nausea

  • Manage side effects of medications
  • Address any health issues
  • Consider doing a gentle liver detoxification
  • Address hormone imbalances
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • Observe any other digestive complaints which would be a contributing factor to nausea such as constipation, insufficient digestive secretions, inflammation or candida
  • Test liver enzyme function through a blood test
  • Reduce stress as adrenaline and stress hormones (cortisol) irritate the nerves and cause a decrease in gastric secretions leading to nausea and decreased digestive function

Natural remedies for nausea

  • Alkalising powder such as Green Barley powder to balance the pH
  • Increase the herb Ginger (in a herbal tea or in cooking) as this helps to decrease symptoms of nausea by calming the digestion
