Garlic
Does eating garlic kill off the good bacteria in the gut?
Anti-fungal properties of Garlic
Garlic has potent antifungal properties. Some clinical studies have noted beneficial effects using doses as low as 1,800 mg of fresh Garlic per day. Please see attachment for an example of one clinical study.
Garlic and Candida
Candida albicans maintains a constant presence in the human body and in small amounts causes no health problems. When the body is in a weakened state due to conditions such as low immunity, stress, poor diet and an over acidic environment this organism may thrive and start to become a problem. The consumption of garlic helps to keep Candida at controlled levels and as long as it is not taken in high doses should have no detrimental effect on beneficial bacteria levels. The optimal daily intake of fresh or cooked Garlic is 3,000 - 10,000 mg (3 - 10 grams) per day. This is the equivalent of one to three cloves of Garlic per day. Higher doses of raw Garlic may destroy the body's Beneficial Bacteria within the Digestive Tract. It is probably a good idea to take the probiotics and Garlic at different times to ensure there is no interaction during absorption.
