Cracked tongue
I have a wide crack in the middle of my tongue, what would cause this to happen?
The appearance of the tongue is a direct reflection on the health of the digestive system. The tongue forms the begining part of the digestive tract and any signs of cracks, coating, coloring or appearance are indications of digestive health. An inspection of the tongue is a useful form of differential diagnosis, especially when used in conjunction with other presenting signs and symptoms.
A cracked tongue is associated with a weakness in the integrity of the digestive tract and may be an indication of any of the following:
- leaky gut, allergies, food intolerances
- perforation of digestive tissue/ tissue breakdown
- stomach and digestive weakness
- loss of elasticity to the digestive tract
- chronic irritation of intestines
- reduced muscle tone and peristalsis of colon
- diverticulitis
