Antibiotic therapy
Are there any natural remedies you would suggest not using when taking antibiotics?
It is not recommended to take Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc or Iron supplements while undergoing antibiotic therapy. This is because these minerals have the ability to chelate (bind) to the medication and reduce its effect on the body. It is best practice to cease taking any mineral supplementation while taking antibiotics. The herb Milk Thistle may also decrease blood levels of the medication.
Natural remedies after antibiotic therapy
The use of antibiotics can reduce the concentration of beneficial bacteria in the gut, for this reason acidophilus/ probiotic supplements are encouraged to restore this balance. However if you decide to take a probiotic supplement please take them at opposite ends of the day or take the supplement once your antibiotic therapy is finished.
